Quarter One Check-In

Marketing

Well, that was fast! Here we are wrapping up the first quarter of 2018. If you’re at all like me, you’re scratching your head thinking, “How can we be a quarter of the way through the year already?” (And then I have a slight panic attack ;))

Time flies. That’s why right now is the perfect time to do a “wellness check” on your marketing plan.

Let’s start with this: did you even create a 2018 marketing plan? If not, get on it! It’s not too late and it’s mission-critical that you do it. The end of the second quarter will creep up on you even faster than the first, and you don’t want to end up half way through the year still without a marketing plan.

If you did create one (yay!), did you do everything you set out to? Give yourself a pat on the back if you did. If you didn’t, ask yourself why not?

Here’s some food for thought… Is your marketing plan working for you? This is a tricky one. Marketing takes time. The best thing you can do is have a clear plan for your brand. Be consistent and stick with it. Sure, you may need to adjust the sails every so often, but don’t get in the mindset that if you don’t see immediate results, it isn’t working. Have a little patience.

Keep in mind the season(s) ahead. Most businesses feel the effects of seasonality in some way – some more than others. For some, spring and summer mean a lull in the activity. If that’s you, use this time wisely to plan for your busy months. Get ahead on writing your blogs, brainstorming and creating sales promotions, scheduling social media posts in advance… you get the point. For others, your busy season is fast approaching. It’s better to get your marketing efforts in place now so that you are able to focus on your customers and your seasonal demands when they get here.

Hopefully this blog post was sort of like when you get one of those reminder cards in the mail from your dentist. You stop for a moment and think about what you have or haven’t been doing (i.e. flossing). And then you make a promise to do better in the coming weeks, before your checkup (i.e. more flossing).

It’s time for a healthy marketing “wellness check”.
